League Format
Match Format
The league uses a Round Robin Match Play Format with GHIN Handicap.
Match Play Definition:
Match play is a scoring system in which a player or team earns a point for each hole where they score better than their opponent. This differs from stroke play, where total strokes over the round determine the winner.
Points System
Each match is worth 21 points total:
- 1 point per hole (18 holes total)
- Halved hole = ½ point each
- 1 point for the front 9
- 1 point for the back 9
- 1 point for overall match winner
Handicap System
- USGA GHIN Handicap applies
- Players receive 80% of their 18-hole GHIN handicap
Example
- Player A handicap: 10
- Player B handicap: 16
Player B receives 6 strokes on the 6 highest-rated handicap holes
(MCG holes: 1, 2, 8, 11, 14, 15).
Another example:
- A 10 handicap receives 8 strokes (80%) applied to the 8 hardest holes.
- A bogey on those holes could score as a net par, etc.
Handicaps are updated weekly on the same day scoring is completed.
Season Schedule
- The schedule allows every player to play each other during the season (depending on league size).
- The full schedule will be released the last week of April.
- Pairings will be provided for every week of the season.
- All matches must take place on Tuesdays.
- Makeups may be voted on during the league meeting.
Playoffs
- Top 16 or 32 players (based on total points) qualify.
- A Match Play bracket determines the champion.
Tiebreakers
- Head-to-head result
- Total wins
Local Rules
If a Tuesday round is rained out and canceled by the Pro, that week becomes null and void with no make-ups.
Additional rules:
- Lift, clean, and place through the green (play the ball up).
- In bunkers:
- Lift, clean, and rake.
- Free relief from standing or puddled water outside the bunker, no closer to the hole.
- High grass rule:

League Format
Scoring Format
The league uses a Modified Stableford scoring system.
Stableford scoring is a stroke-play format where the highest point total wins, not the lowest score. Instead of counting total strokes, players earn points based on their score on each individual hole.
Modified Stableford Point System
- Double Eagle: 5 points
- Eagle: 4 points
- Birdie: 3 points
- Par: 2 points
- Bogey: 1 point
- Double Bogey or worse: 0 points
Points are added each week after the 9-hole round. Weekly totals contribute to each player’s season-long cumulative point total.
At the end of the season:
- Top 16 or 32 players (depending on league size) qualify for playoffs.
Tiebreakers
- Head-to-head result
- Highest single-week point total until tie is resolved
Playoffs
Format: Match Play (Bracket Format)
Handicap System
- USGA GHIN Handicap applies
- Players receive 60% of their 18-hole GHIN Handicap, which is then divided in half to determine the 9-hole handicap.
Example
- A 10 handicap × 60% = 6 strokes
- Divide by 2 for 9 holes = 3 strokes
The player receives one stroke on the 3 hardest handicap holes, meaning a bogey could become a net par, etc.
- Maximum Handicap: 36 (18-hole handicap)
Local Rules
If a Tuesday round is rained out and canceled by the golf course, the week becomes null and void with no makeups.
Additional rules:
- Lift, clean, and place through the green (play the ball up).
- In bunkers:
- Lift, clean, and rake.
- Free relief from standing or puddled water outside the bunker, no closer to the hole.

If you’d like, I can also standardize all three league documents into one master template so every league sheet looks identical (same wording, rules layout, and sections). It’ll make them look much more professional when sending to players or posting in the clubhouse.
